Week 3 PartB: 5 Business Websites

5 Business Websites:

  • After analyzing each of the 5 businesses, write several paragraphs explaining what you discovered collectively from this exploration.
  1. Miracosta College
    • http://miracosta.edu/
    • They have social media link that is visibly using and currently uses all of them
      • Facebook;  9/6/18 (latest post)
      • Twitter 9/6/18
      • Instagram: 9/6/18
      • SmugMug?
      • LinkedIn August 2018
      • YouTube 2017
    •  Miracosta College uses quick post social media platforms well. They post content on a daily basis on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Whereas LinkedIn is geared towards employment opportunities. SmugMug is current with event albums on a consistent basis. I think the most significant opening is YouTube and developing more video content.
  2. Palomar College
    • https://www2.palomar.edu
    • Social Media Links
      • Facebook: 9/7/2018
      • Instagram: 9/7/2018
      • Twitter:9/7/2018
    • Palomar College post on a daily basis for all three social media platforms. I think the graphics and post could use a little bit of work to make all cohesive.
  3. Southwestern College
    • http://www.swccd.edu/
    • Social Media Links
      • Facebook  9/6/18 (latest post)
      • Twitter  9/6/18 (most recent post)
    • Southwestern College is current with social media. However, they need to upgrade on their website.
  4. Cuyamaca College
    • https://www.cuyamaca.edu/
    • Social Media Links
      • Facebook 05/28/18
      • Blogger: 09/07/2018
      • Twitter: 09/05/2018
    • Cuyamaca is a hit and miss when it comes to its social media. Although it has excellent content with the students' stories, it still needs a visual focus.
  5. Mesa College
    • https://www.mesacc.edu/
    • Social Media Links
      • Facebook:9/07/2018
      • Twitter: 9/08/2018
      • YouTube: 9/07/2018
      • Instagram: 9/07/2018
      • LinkedIn: 9/01/2018
    • Mesa College among the five of the community college has the most active social media. Their buttons have a call to action button on their website. The post content almost on a daily basis, Twitter regularly throughout the day.
I decided to use community colleges located in San Diego as my choice of business to analyze their social media efforts. This is because I recently got offered the job as the Marketing Assitant at MiraCosta in the Public Information Office. I'm super excited about this opportunity. Also, it is a great hands-on experience to between the classes I am currently taking and the job. I think it was smart to look at what other community colleges are doing on social media and see how MiraCosta College compares to each of them.

All the colleges have at least Facebook and Twitter. I think they are now stables of the social media platform. As a business, you can't just have an Instagram. You need at least Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. They have the function to create a simple post. Whereas Youtube you need more time and a story to develop videos. Mesa does an excellent job in developing a variety of content across all platforms. You have to figure out who is your audience and then build content from there

Blogs I commented on: Christina Castaneda, Jesus Farias Jr., and Nancy Niepagen
