Week 2A: Overview of Social Media

The social media platforms that are geared towards personal use are Snapchat and Pinterest. I find the structure of Snapchat and Pinterest more suitable for personal use, even though both can be used for business accounts. Snapchat's unique features of only showing an image or a video for 24 hours within your circle is very personal. Also, they have a private chat feature that let you select each person to send your image or video. As for Pinterest, I mainly use it for brainstorming my own projects and having a digital visionary board. I don't necessarily send pins to other people who follow me.

The social media platforms that seem to work well for both personal and professional use are Facebook and Instagram. Both allow story content for a business and can also allow for promotional through a caption with an image. Hashtags created within these platforms for a specific promotional are easily trackable.

The social media platform that works better for businesses is Twitter. I think Twitter is more suitable for a company because the more followers you have on Twitter, the more likely they will receive your post. A business (or a celebrity) can be a considerable influence in the Twitter platform. Ellen DeGeneres broke Twitter when she posted a tweet as she was hosting the Oscars. President Trump uses Twitter as a venting tool, which is accessible to timestamp and captures for any news outlets to report on.
